Willie James McGowan, lovingly known to many as "Peter Roni," was born on June 27, 1942, in Terry, Mississippi. He departed from this world on March 28, 2025, in Baptist Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Willie was a man with a warm heart and a playful spirit, known for his loving nature and innate ability to bring joy to those around him. He was the kind of person who could light up a room with his jokes and make everyone feel welcome and valued. He loved being with his friends and family, creating beautiful moments filled with joy and kindness.
As a beloved uncle and great uncle, Willie had an extraordinary bond with his devoted niece and nephew, Tammy (Sammie) Hudson and Eddie McGowan, who he cherished deeply and treated like his own children. He took immense pride in his great nephew, Christopher Harris, who was like a grandson to him. Willie’s nurturing affection extended beyond his immediate family, embraced by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends who also felt the warmth of his love.
The loss of Willie is felt profoundly by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Tommy McGowan, his sister Nettie Ree McGowan, and his brothers Willie T. Bingham, Eddie Lee Florence, Earl Lee McGowan, and Tommy Lee McGowan. While their absence is deeply felt, Willie’s loving spirit continues to resonate in the countless memories they shared together.
Throughout his life, Willie McGowan embodied the essence of community. He was an outgoing friend to many, loving everyone he met without reservation. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
