Born on January 20, 1947, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, John's passion for communication and his charismatic personality shaped his impressive career.
John's career in broadcasting spanned several radio stations, where he was both a Newscaster later worked for Texaco Oil Company and Railroad Company in Oklahoma. His distinct voice and ability to captivate listeners made him a trusted source of information and a household name in the industry.
John's educational background included attending Brinkley High School and Texas College. These formative years provided him with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in his chosen field.
Known for his warmth and genuine personality, John touched the lives of many throughout his life. He was a loving son to his parents Fred and Armetha Rawls, a caring brother to A.J. Rawls and Beatrice Davenport, and a loyal friend. John's greatest joy, however, came from being a devoted father to his daughter Armetha Steele and son Brandon Rawls. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and loved them unconditionally.
In addition to being a doting father, John cherished his role as a grandfather to Brandon Rawls Jr. and Aden Black. It brought him great joy to watch them grow and witness the bond they shared with their parents.
Family was of utmost importance to John, as evidenced by his close relationship with his sister Freddie Mae Pendarvius and brother Bishop Rufus Rawls (Ora). Their unwavering support brought comfort during difficult times.
Throughout his life, John fostered meaningful connections with those around him. Alberta "Goldie" Rouser held a special place in John's heart as one of his dearest friends. Their friendship served as a testament to John's ability to form deep and lasting bonds.
John's memory will be cherished by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He had a profound impact on their lives and leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
A memorial service to honor John Rawls will be held on January 13, 2024, at Triumph the Church & Kingdom in Jackson, Mississippi. The service will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with the address being 5302 Queen Mary Ln, Jackson, MS 39209.
