Harloyn Bradley

February 12, 1951 — August 31, 2024

Utica MS

Harloyn Bradley was born February 12, 1951, in Hinds County, Mississippi to the late James and Beulah Bell Bradley. He departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2024, 9:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was preceded in death by a son and grandson, grandparents, sisters, brothers, nephews, aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, cousins and many loved ones.

Harloyn united with the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Carpenter, Mississippi at an early age where he remained a member.

Harloyn was educated in the Hinds County Public School System at Mixon Elementary School, Utica Consolidated High School, Utica Agricultural High School and Utica Junior College. Harloyn was a very skilled basketball player for the Mixon Elementary School team, “The Wildcats” as well as a High School and College basketball player whom he often helped win if Sharon did not show up at the games. Coach Joe Nelson personally asked her not to attend because Harloyn lost focus whenever he saw her at the games. He was also a formidable basketball player within the community as well, mostly because he cheated the young men in the subdivision and argued that he was always right!

Harloyn was a man tall in statue, but one who would help you whenever he could. He loved and took care of his family. He may not have expressed love openly but, he showed it in his own unique way. Harloyn was a man who spoke his mind to whomever and did not back down even if he was wrong. You may not have liked his response to a question but, when you asked, he would give it to you real and it was not debatable!

Harloyn also enjoyed singing and was blessed to record with the Utica Southern Aires on their very first recording “My Savior Lives.” Willie Banks and the Messengers were his favorite quartet group, and sang the song “Prayer Is the Answer.” Believe it or not, he sounded remarkably like the lead singer of that song, James Williams. Oh yes, Harloyn Bradley could sing!!!!

One of Harloyn’s favorite past-times was picking up cans and finding loose change! He often came home and told Shell, “Shell, these people think I am homeless, and I don’t say a word!” He was also gifted at hanging sheetrock and some plumbing for anyone requesting his services.

Harloyn and Sharon united in holy matrimony July 29, 1973, and to this union Three (3) children were born. Harloyn leaves to cherish fond memories of his beloved wife of 51 years, Sharon Elaine Noel Bradley of Utica, MS. Two (2) daughters: Ethel Marie (Kenneth) Ratliff and Shannon Anetria Bradley and Two (2) sons, Kenneth DeWayne Noel and Courtney Montrell (Sarah) Bradley from Jackson, MS.
